Rumors about possible changes in Apple's iPhone series of smartphones have been circulating for months. The Internet has been talking for some time now that devices will soon have a USB-C charging port, which will replace the previously used Lightning.
According to previously published information, such changes should reach Apple smartphones as early as 2023, when the iPhone 15 series models will debut. Now it becomes clear that the managers of the US giant are already testing their products with a USB-C connector, Bloomberg reports.
The first reports of changes to the charging connector in the iPhone series appeared back in 2017, but five years later, the changes still haven't happened. Interestingly, according to some sources, Apple intends to offer a special accessory that will allow phones with a USB-C connection to be able to use accessories with a Lightning connection. True, for now it remains unclear whether such an accessory would come with the phone or if it should be purchased separately.
It should be remembered that one of the main reasons why Apple is forced to consider switching to USB-C charging connectors in its devices is the requirements of the European Union. Europe has been pushing for some time to standardize charging ports for all devices, and Apple has been one of the fiercest critics of such changes.
If this latest information turns out to be true, the iPhone 14 series will be the last to feature a Lightning connector. Apple has already moved most of its devices to the USB-C ecosystem, leaving only the entry-level iPad and AirPods series in addition to the iPhone with the Lightning connector. The iPhone 15 should benefit from USB-C in a variety of ways, including faster charging and wider connectivity options, especially with Apple's own USB-C powered devices.
